Description

Senior position in Space Electronics and Instruments BU to design, manufacture and test primarily mechanisms, and opto-mechanical hardware for space science projects.

Electronics Packaging Hardware design will also be an important secondary task.

Ensure that the mechanical design of company products are compliant with customer requirements and COM DEV practices stated by design processes, OPP’s and CWI’s.

Take complete ownership of related work packages. Ensure work packages outputs/milestones are clearly defined and mapped into the schedule. Responsible for meeting the Work packages schedules and costs.

Perform structural, thermal and other related analysis and prepare documents to support the design. Support Mechanical engineering in developing concepts for proposals.

Prepare and document risk assessment during specifications review and for change of scope requested by customers. The risk assessment shall include technical as well as cost and schedule impacts.

Review design drawings, specifications, support internal and external meetings, supervise environmental testing.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering program

5 to 10 years experience working with mechanisms intended for space applications. In particular, experience in the selection of motors, bearings, gears, lubricants, surface coatings etc.

The successful candidate shall exhibit solid understanding of these components, ability to analyze and device tests to ensure that all lower and top-level system requirements are met under worst-case environment.

The successful candidate must demonstrate experience in understanding complex science mechanical requirements and translate them into functional requirements specifications for the top-level system as well as for the lower level procurement specifications.

The successful candidate must demonstrate experience writing verification plan(s) to address how each requirement specification is verified.

The successful candidate must exhibit broad exposure and understanding of current and future trends and developments in the field of mechanism and gimbals with the intention of future development

Experience with finite element analysis and other software for the analysis of gear and bearing such as A.B. Jones

Preferred candidate will have 1-2 year’s experience of designing mechanisms to operate in cryogenic conditions.
