Position Summary

This position supports the operation & maintenance of GXS (GlobalConnex Services) IP network and International Private Line (IPL) service.

  • Investigate Vsat and IP network issues, isolate and rectify technical problems and outages on data network components. Document solutions and lessons learned.
  • Resolve backbone-level and customers problems reported by  Level1 support, including routing problems, RF or IP connectivity issues, network abuse issues, etc.
  • Work with vendors of IP and broadband network equipment to track problems, test new code releases.
  • Proactive Management of IP backbone and DVB network and preventive and corrective action to minimize system downtime.
  • Provide reports on system downtime and carrier circuit performance.
  • Contribute to the knowledge development of the L1 and L2 support.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in managing and troubleshooting IP networks: Point-to-point links, DVB, TDM/TDMA
  • Experience performing network configurations, including routing architecture, traffic engineering, configuration standards and peering policies.
  • Understanding of satellite communication ground control equipment including modems, converters, HPA, LNA, IFL and antenna systems desirable but not mandatory.
  • Some experience in RF transmission equipment and troubleshooting highly desirable.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of LAN/WAN technologies and routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, MPLS traffic Engineering and VPN Technologies).
  • Must be familiar with IP routing equipment from Cisco and Juniper. Must be able to diagnose and resolve routing issues, congestion problems, and hardware and software failures.
  • Ability to work ONCALL in a high pressure environment to support 24x7 data operations team in troubleshooting and resolving network communications problems.
  • Ability to work independently, without much supervision and able to react promptly to real-time issues.
  • 3+ years related experience in technical support environment.

Experience with any of the following is highly desirable:

  • UNIX systems (*BSD, Solaris, Linux)
  • Programming and scripting (C, Perl, SQL)
  • Optical transmission systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Nerworking Certifications
  • Telecommunication degree and/or Certificates
